In the past, Weight Watchers dieters used to have to calculate the point’s value of their food by weighing it and working out how many points it was out of their daily allowance. They could more or less eat anything as long as they kept within the daily limits.
The current plan is what is called Weight Watchers online in the United States (ProPoints in the UK). This program helps you plan the foods you eat based on your lifestyle and your likes and dislikes, and the points values of the foods. You also get tips on eating at restaurants.
The new points plan gives lower points values to healthier foods, for example, most fruit and vegetables have a zero points value, meaning you can eat as much of them as you like. The points are calculated using special scientific formulas including such things as the fiber, fat or sodium content of the food, so foods containing more of these will have higher points values to discourage you from eating them in large quantities.
